Place-making specialists and operators of Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre, The TIME + SPACE Co, in collaboration with Far East Consortium (FEC) are inviting you to join CREATE; a celebration of Hornsey Town Hall’s rich heritage and exciting future that also embraces the wider Haringey community. Taking place on Saturday 6th July from 10am until late, CREATE will feature a diverse free programme of music, a pop-up outdoor cinema, craft, poetry and dance workshops, virtual reality gaming, street food stalls and bars plus many more activities for the whole family. Visitors will also have the opportunity to find out more about the restoration of the Town Hall and visit the stunning show home.

Community, Performance, Events, Workspace and Hospitality are the five key pillars of The TIME + SPACE Co, all of which are reflected in the revival of Hornsey Town Hall as an Arts Centre. Piers Read, Managing Partner at The TIME + SPACE Co says: “The objective of this event is to bring people together to celebrate Hornsey Town Hall’s rich heritage ahead of its restoration and re-opening as a fully-fledged Arts Centre. CREATE is our philosophy. The building will host and support creative entrepreneurs in the future. It will be an initiative we carry forward in the development of the Arts Centre, which focuses on creative outputs, supported by Research and Education within Arts, Technology and Enterprise.”

The main stage will see a programme of music and dance performances including London-based swing band Shirt Tail Stompers, music curated by the Crossover Jazz Room in Crouch End and a joyous finale with headline act Gospeloke who take karaoke to another level with a five-piece gospel choir and games.

Visitors who would like to find out more about the history of Hornsey Town Hall can take part in heritage tours run by Crouch End Walks, during which visitors can see all of the Town Hall’s original features and hear about its rich history. This is the last chance to see the building in its current state before the careful restoration, to revive the Town Hall, begins.

To keep your little ones entertained, CREATE will offer a number of fun activities for children, including bubbles, slime making, face-painting as well as the showing of a family film on the big screen, which is the first event of the day. Visitors are invited to join one of the many workshops which include poetry, swing dancing, crafts and kids’ drama sessions or drop in to hear an informative talk from Hornsey Town Hall-based specialists in sustainable fashion, architecture and publishing including local independent culture magazine Village Raw.

The team of MAKE Architects, who are behind the restoration of the Town Hall, will also be present to host a talk that gives further insight into the exciting revival of this historic venue. MAKE Architects has ensured that the new buildings capture the spirit and style of Hornsey Town Hall, which will be evident in the façades, where layered brickwork and carefully crafted geometric metal balustrades come together to reflect the Town Hall’s original Art Deco features.

CREATE concludes with an evening movie on the outdoor screen, which is being run in collaboration with local independent cinema ArtHouse. Read adds: “There will be something for all age groups across a wide range of different creative industries including performing arts, technology, visual art and film. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to join this celebration before the building closes for restoration.”

Hornsey Town Hall is being given a new lease of life by FEC, who are restoring it back to its former glory in keeping with the historical and Art Deco features. Due for completion in 2021, Hornsey Town Hall will be home to a new Arts Centre that provides versatile performance and events spaces for community use and private hire which will be complemented by an artistic programme of theatre, music, comedy, dance, film and more.

Co-working and flexible work spaces will attract young businesses and creative entrepreneurs, whilst restaurants and cafés offer an array of culinary options. A new hotel, operated by Dorsett Hospitality International, will also be situated within the original Town Hall building, whilst buyers can choose from 146 private and affordable homes including studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments. The apartments will be spread across two new build blocks, a mews building and a carefully restored Broadway annex in the Town Hall grounds.

Angela Walsh, Head of Sales and Marketing at FEC comments: “We are excited to give visitors a glimpse of what’s to come. Community spirit is very much at the core of Hornsey Town Hall’s future and we are looking forward to seeing this historic building becoming an integral part of the local community again.”
