Far East Consortium is proud to launch Hornsey Town Hall, the iconic Grade II* Listed former civic headquarters in the heart of Crouch End. Undergoing meticulous restoration, Hornsey Town Hall is being transformed into a new desirable address which combines history, culture and modern living; making it ideal for Londoners seeking a new destination to live, work and play.

Hornsey Town Hall provides an extremely rare opportunity for those who wish to live in a landmark scheme which is steeped in history. In the Town Hall itself, many of the original features remain untouched, including the stunning grand staircases, terrazzo flooring, light fittings, glazed panelled doors, original ironmongery, metal balustrades and more. Far East Consortium is ensuring the preservation of these features and offering a unique chance for history and design lovers to become part of this landmarks future by purchasing a new home at this exclusive scheme.

Hornsey Town Hall will provide a wide range of community spaces, creating an exceptional lifestyle opportunity. A new arts centre, which will be run by Time + Space Co, a co-working space, café, flexible events spaces, a new hotel and 135 new homes will take this much-loved landmark into a glorious new era.

John Connolly, Head of UK Development at Far East Consortium, commented: “We are delighted to launch Hornsey Town Hall. Blending culture, history, modern living and excellent amenities, this is an exciting and very rare opportunity for Londoners to own a new home at this iconic landmark.

“We are honouring Hornsey Town Hall’s distinguished legacy and bringing it to new uses, creating a new destination in Crouch End. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a home at this iconic scheme which will enable people to enjoy this much-loved London landmark for generations to come.”

Commissioned in the early 1930s to house Hornsey Borough Council, Hornsey Town Hall was completed in 1935. It is one of the earliest and most iconic examples of modernist architecture in Britain.

New Zealand architect Reginald Harold Uren, who was just 27 at the time, beat 212 other competitors. The competitors were asked to design a building that ‘‘should be dignified and indicate its purpose’, rather than boast ‘elaborate decoration and detail which is not required’.
Internally, designs included a council chamber, committee rooms, administrative offices and a multi-purpose hall with seating for 800 to 1,000 people, complete with an upper gallery, for no more than £100,000.

But the pioneering, Art Deco building, which is Grade II* listed is more than just a Modernist monument. It also has a proud history and is a building which is much loved by the Crouch End community.

Crowds witnessed some of rock music’s most legendary shows in the hall, from The Kinks’ Ray Davies playing some of his earliest gigs, through to Queen making their first-ever public performance in 1971.

Now, Far East Consortium is investing more than £30 million in the building, removing it from Historic England’s ‘Heritage at Risk’ register, enabling Hornsey Town Hall to enter a new glorious period in its history.

At once preserving the past and embracing the future, the vibrant new development includes a newly built collection of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments in the ground of the Town Hall, alongside a stylish hotel and arts centre, which will be situated within the original Town Hall building.

Ranging from 461 sq. ft. to 1,482. Sq. ft., the apartments will be finished to the highest standard. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the open plan living area will flood the room with plenty of natural light and chevron timber flooring will flow from the hallways through to the living spaces, referencing the original wood paneling and flooring in the Town Hall. The designer kitchens will feature fully integrated appliances and state-of-the-art facilities for cooking and storage, while terrazzo inspired solid worktops will allow plenty of space for meal preparation.

The light and airy bedrooms will feature built-in wardrobes and many of the master bedrooms will benefit from en suite bathrooms and their own balconies or terraces. Lined with chevron porcelain wall and floor tiles, the bathrooms will offer a contemporary take on Hornsey Town Hall’s modernist aesthetic. The mirrored storage cabinet and vanity unit feature satin nickel framing and opal lighting, bringing an art deco touch to the room.

The majority of apartments at Hornsey Town Hall will feature balconies, terraces or small gardens. Opening up from either the living areas or master bedrooms, the balconies will be lined with detailed metal balustrades, reflecting the Town Hall’s distinctive exterior.

In line with the wider restoration of the building, the square has been rejuvenated to celebrate such original features as the iconic fountain and the period street lighting. The central green space is still home to the existing shady mature trees and lawn garden, but integrated seating will border the area and soft planting will bring bursts of colour.

Lining the square, cafés and restaurants will serve al fresco diners as seating spills outside, and local traders and stall owners set up shop on market day, creating a vibrant, inclusive space for generations to come. Hornsey Town Hall will remain an important part of the local community, hosting a variety of cultural and social events throughout the year.

Buyers of the apartments in the development will live in one of the most popular areas of North London, in the heart of Crouch End, an area which caters to every taste and occasion. Its streets are home to cuisines from all corners of the world, with a selection of Thai restaurants, Mediterranean cafés, steakhouses and pizzerias.

It’s also home to a variety of quirky cocktail bars, a microbrewery and a basement club, drawing locals and visitors alike, while the gastropubs and traditional ale houses serve hearty pub lunches along with a choice of local ales, speciality gins and expertly selected wines.

Haringey, where the Town Hall stands, was identified as the London borough with the highest house price growth last year – with average prices rising 12 per cent between 2016 and 2017 and the areas continued popularity is expected to rise as Londoners in more expensive areas such as Islington and Hampstead seek more value for money, according to data from the Office of National Statistics.

North London is blessed with an abundance of greenery. Hampstead Heath and Highgate Wood are the perfect places for walks, picnics, dog walkers and cyclists. With the Victorian grandeur of Alexandra Park to the north and the landscaped gardens of Finsbury Park to the south, Crouch End sits in between some of the city’s best-loved green spaces.

A short walk up from the Broadway, the charming Priory Park draws locals for strolls among the mature silver birches, plane trees and well-maintained flowerbeds, perhaps with a stop for coffee at the park’s independently run café.

Crouch End is also well connected to the rest of London and beyond. Stopping right outside Town Hall Square, the W7 bus runs to Finsbury Park, where the Piccadilly and Victoria Underground lines offer speedy connections into central London, and National Rail services provide links to destinations across the country. For the Northern line, a thirteen-minute journey on the 41 bus will take you right to Archway station.

The new marketing suite will be open from Friday 4th May with a launch event taking place on on Saturday 19th May.

Prices for the new homes at the development will start from £499,950 for a one bedroom apartment.
